Scope and Content of Collection
UCSB currently has five vice chancellors operating under the chancellor: the Executive Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellor of
Administrative Services, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Vice Chancellor of Research, and Vice Chancellor of Institutional
Advancement.

The collection contains subject files on the various offices of the vice chancellors of UC Santa Barbara. Some of the Vice
Chancellor titles present in the collection are no longer in use and cover responsibilities now assumed by other offices.
Arrangement
The collection contains the following series:
Series I, Executive Vice Chancellor, contains files on the Academic Plan, the Committee on the Recruitment of Excellent Students, the El Congreso hunger strike,
memos, correspondence, and speeches.
Series II, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, contains files on the Academic Plan, the Learning Assistance Task Force, freshmen seminars, and correspondence.
Series III, Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services, contains files on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), energy conservation, and correspondence.
Series IV, Vice Chancellor of Business & Finance, contains a correspondence file of Vice Chancellor of Business & Finance Dale Tomlinson.
Series V, Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement, contains a correspondence file of Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement Edward Birch.
Series VI, Vice Chancellor of Research & Graduate Affairs, contains a correspondence file of Vice Chancellor of Research & Graduate Affairs Gordon MacDonald.
Series VII, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, contains Student Affairs Research & Evaluation reports, correspondence, and memos.
Series VIII, Audio, contains four audiotapes of Stephen Goodspeed, Vice Chancellor of Adminstrative Affairs in the late 1960s and 1970s.
