Bulk consists of advice correspondence addressed to Jim Jones between 1971 and 1974. Most letters are from nonmembers seeking legal and personal advice. Tim Stoen and Gene Chaikin, both Peoples Temple members and practicing attorneys, replied to the letters. Much of the correspondence relates to child custody and welfare issues, court case and parole board hearings, as well as housing, drug, illness and financial problems. Tim Stoen's replies on behalf of Jim Jones urged people to attend a Peoples Temple service and receive free legal advice afterwards; for criminal offenses or cases outside of California, he referred people to local lawyers.
