Abstract: City of Rancho Cucamonga Library's photograph and records collection includes images of historical interest of the City of Rancho Cucamonga from as early as 1897 to 1980. Images document the wine industry (notably the Virginia Dare Winery, Thomas Winery and Cucamonga Winery), buildings, people, organizations, city views, aerials, floods, significant individuals, including the Reid family, first mayor of Rancho Cucamonga, the Fire District; and annual events such as the Grape Harvest Festival.

This collection was created by the City of Rancho Cucamonga staff from 2010-2011 as part of the California Local History Digital Resources Project (LHDRP). Collected by the City of Rancho Cucamonga staff and others, 1991-present.

Biography / Administrative History

Empire Realty & Mortgage Co. was a realty and mortgage company incorporated in Upland, California, specializing in the sale of orange and lemon groves and sale of mortgages.
The Filippi family is a local winegrowing family that has been making wine for over 86 years in the historic Cucamonga-Guasti area.

City of Rancho Cucamonga Fire Protection District was formerly known as the Foothill Fire Protection District and was formed in 1975.

Scope and Content of Collection

City of Rancho Cucamonga Library's photograph and records collection includes images of historical interest of the City of Rancho Cucamonga from as early as 1897 to 1980. Images document the wine industry (notably the Virginia Dare Winery, Thomas Winery and Cucamonga Winery), buildings, people, organizations, city views, aerials, floods, significant individuals, including the Reid family, first mayor of Rancho Cucamonga, the Fire District; and annual events such as the Grape Harvest Festival.
Items were selected from a wide range of photographs obtained at the City of Rancho Cucamonga Archives. Some of these photographs may also be found on the library local history website. Consult library for more information.
