The collection was donated to the Pioneer Room by Virginia Covington. The material was received in a box consisting of 2 binders
that were starting to deteriorate. The documents were moved from the damaged binders and placed in archival file folders
in the original order in which they were found. Most of the family surnames were in alphabetical order. The correspondence
was filed in chronological order. The collection is now in 4 series: Surname files, Civil War, Correspondence and Miscellaneous
articles from Sonia Monroe.
Biography/Administrative History
Virginia Page Covington was born in Los Angeles, California on January 6, 1916. She was the daughter of Hugh Ellis Page and
Edna Pennywitt. She had one brother, Milton Ellis Page.
She married Thad Covington in 1938. They had three sons: Cass Rawley, Ralph Glen and Randall Hugh Covington. Thad Covington
was in the oil business. He passed away in 1999.
Mrs. Covington was deeply involved in genealogy. This collection represents her work on the Page and Covington families.
Virginia Covington died on March 5, 2008.
Scope and Content of Collection
This collection consists of correspondence, ancestor charts, family notes and photographs from the Page and Covington families.
Allied families also included are Eagle, Osman, Naylor, Tucker, Denning, Scott, McElfresh, West, Brinton, Kelly, Putty, Lindsey,
McColm, Stafford, Rawley, Cohee, Callison, Millsaps, Alderson, Lumsden, Carpenter, Wilbanks and Powell. The localities covered
are: Maryland, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia.
