Biographical / Historical
Edith Anna Strauss (born October 3, 1917) was a German Jew from Frankfurt. Her parents were Joseph Strauss and Sophie Strauss.
At 18 Edith started interning at a few Jewish-owned businesses. In 1937 Edith emigrated to New York City to live with her
uncle.
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of correspondence, official documents, printed materials, schoolwork, ephemera, album amicorums,
and other materials documenting the life of a young German Jew from the 1920s to the early 1940s. The correspondence between
Edith Strauss and her parents includes correspondence between Strauss in New York and her parents who were still in Germany.
Conditions Governing Access
Open for research. Note that material must be requested at least 36 hours in advance of intended use. Audiovisual materials
are not available in original format, and must be reformatted to a digital use copy. Selected video from this collection has
been digitized and is available in the Special Collections reading room.
