Description
The
Museum of Vertebrate Zoology historical correspondence is comprised of correspondence created and received by museum personnel primarily between 1908
and 1930.
Background
The
Museum
of
Vertebrate
Zoology's historical correspondence files was a filing system designed at the inception of the museum. It is believed that Joseph Grinnell
may have designed the system himself. The files are arranged alphabetically by surname and then chronologically. All correspondence
relating to curatorial activities, building operations, and general administrative functions were preserved and filed in this
collection. The collection dates from the museum's founding in 1908 and ends with 1930. The
Museum
of
Vertebrate
Zoology was moved to a new building in 1930 and a new correspondence collection was begun at that time.
