Biographical / Historical

Alexander W. Armour, of Princeton, New Jersey, was an American collector of historical documents.

Scope and Contents

Collection of photostats of various historical documents and letters written by prominent American and British historical and literary figures, dated from 1676 to 1882. There are letters by Jean Armour Burns, Samuel Clemens, George W.P. Custis, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Robert E. Lee, Samuel Morse, Florence Nightingale, William Seward, and Charles Sumner. There is one document dated November 18, 1676, signed by Charles II. The photostat reproductions were likely made between 1900 and 1948.
