Scope and Contents

This collection contains maps depicting South San Francisco. Maps include South City's earliest geographical formation, including the Buri Buri Ranch and the town of Baden, early city platting and streets layout. Collection includes a blueprint map of property owned by the South San Francisco Land and Improvement Company. Some maps indicate sites of early companies and industries (e.g. Pacific Coast Steel, SSF Union stockyards, US Naval Radio Station, Western Investment Co.; Western Pipe and Steel Co., WP Fuller, Swift and Company, American Marble and Mosaic, Metal and Thermit, Stieger Pottery Work, Western Meat Co., Jupiter Steel, Southern Pacific Rail Road, Swift Avenue Electric Railway tracks, The Federal Wireless Co., Schaw Batcher Shipbuilding, Carson Chemical Co., Baden Brick Company, Pacific Coast Steel, and Enterprise Foundry) and the bay coastline before and after landfill.
