Scope and Contents

On February 19, 1942, President Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066. This order led to the forced internment of Japanese Americans, most of whom were United States citizens.

3,699 innocent men, women, and children were incarcerated at the Turlock Assembly Center on the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds between April 30th and August 12th of 1942, due to the order. Internees were from the Sacramento River Delta and Los Angeles areas. They were eventually relocated to the Gila River internment camp located in the Arizona desert, remaining there until the end of WWII in 1945.

This collection of 7 issues was produced between June 3rd and July 17th of 1942. The newsletter's content covers theatrical performances, facility services, baseball game competitions and statistics, and overall morale and living conditions. It is unclear to what extent the newsletter content may have been directed by forces outside of the interred residents.
