Scope and Content of Collection

The collection consists of materials collected by Cecil Knockherworst Weatherbee (Danny), a columnist for the Bay Area Reporter (BAR). Knockherworst was active in the Imperial Court and the collection contains materials related to the court system and San Francisco bars. It includes drawings of Empress Shirley for the BAR; photographs of Weatherbee, Jose Sarria, Lori Shannon, Sweetlips, Empress Crystal, and other notables in the San Francisco Imperial Court System; programs and a dinner menu for the Sagittarius Dinner of Empress of San Francisco III Shirley (Weatherbee) and the Honorable John Robert Pollard (1970); and correspondence. The collection also includes the following artifacts: buttons commemorating Whetherbee’s “hanging” of Sweet Lips (1971-1989), a Sweet Lips maraca, a “Miss Lithuania” trophy from the Gangway (1977), a Royal Oak Gay Community Award (1979), and a whip.
