Members of the Heslop (often spelled Heslope) family were early landowners in eastern Pasadena, California. José Heslop (1835-1899)
was born of English and Chilean parents in Valparaiso, Chile, and he came to California and married Francisca White. She was
the daughter of Michael White, an English sailor who came early to California and married the daughter of Eulalia Pérez de
Guillén, through whom Francisca inherited portions of Rancho San Pascual (present-day Pasadena) and Rancho Muscupiabe near
San Bernardino.
The collection consists of documents, including account books, and manuscripts related to Heslop family genealogy, land dealings
near the city of Pasadena (including Lamanda Park), and the litigation for title of Rancho Muscupiabe. Of note in the collection
is a traced copy of a map of Rancho San Pascual, 1843, and José Heslop's diary of a voyage off the coast of Lower California
and notes regarding working for Elias Jackson "Lucky" Baldwin, 1906.
