Abstract: The Alice Sharp collection is composed of 36 letters written by her 4th and 5th grade students when she taught at Buri Buri
Elementary School in South San Francisco. The letters, written in 1953, were addressed to her father, Robert Elmer Sharp,
who resided in Jacksonville, Florida. Alice Sharp utilized the writing exercise to help her students practice penmanship.

Alice Vaughan Sharp was born in Jacksonville, FL in 1928 and received a B.A. from Chapel Hill in North Carolina. She was hired
at her first teaching job in the South San Francisco Unified School district. She taught 4th and 5th grade students at Buri
Buri Elementary School.
