Anne Wardrope Nott Brigman was born in 1869 on Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaiian Islands to Mary Ellen and Samuel Nott. The family moved to northern California in 1885. In 1894 Anne married sea captain Martin Brigman in San Francisco and the couple settled in Oakland. The couple eventually separated in 1910. In 1901 Brigman began making photographs and joined the California Camera Club. Her early works were reproduced in Camera Craft magazine. In 1902 Brigman exhibited works in the Second San Francisco Photographic Salon. She was among the original members of the Photo-Secession movement and her photography was reproduced in Camera Work. Brigman continued to participate in exhibitions until the 1930s. In 1929 she moved from Oakland to Long Beach. At that point, Brigman began working with printmaking and producing linoleum-block prints. Anne Wardrope Nott Brigman died in 1950 in Eagle Rock, California.
