Biographical / Historical

Norman Moser (1931-1998) was a writer who was active in the San Francisco Bay Area during the 1960s through the 1980s. He was born in North Carolina and arrived in Northern California during the 1960s. Moser was an instructor at the University of California at Berkeley and produced the literary publication Illuminations.

Scope and Contents

The collection contains incoming correspondence received by writer Norman Moser during the late 1960s through the 1970s. Most of the correspondence is with other poets and writers, including many that were active in the San Francisco Bay Area literary scene. Of particular note are letters from playwright Ed Bullins, poet Jimmy Santiago Baca, poet Will Inman, author John Montgomery, author Joel Weishaus, and poet A.D. Winans.
