Scope and Contents

This series contains two sub-series. Sub-series A: Ernest Smith Personal Papers contains material belonging to Ernest and is comprised of correspondence; event programs; music and ballet programs; material related to religion and church; and certificates of appreciation. The majority of this sub-series is in regards to Ernest's education and includes diplomas, transcripts, and teaching credentials. Sub-series B: Smith Family Personal Papers contains material belonging to Ernest's relatives including two of his children, Lynetta and Cheryl; and includes wedding invitations; and commencement programs and invitations. Also included in this sub-series are a dissertation and curriculum vitae belonging to Foraker Ulysses Smith.

This series is comprised of two sub-series.
Sub-Series A: Photographs contains photographs, color slides, and negatives featuring the Smith family and their friends at various events and celebrations such as holidays; graduations; funerals; birthdays; and others. Also included are headshots of the Smith family; and images taken at Ernest's campaign fundraising events; images taken at CTA and NEA events; and images taken at the 1972 Democratic National Convention.
Sub-series B: A/V Material contains six Scotch Magentic Tape reel-to-reel tapes with unknown contents. Two are labeled, "Blank 1 + 2" and "spliced (blank)".
