Scope and Contents

The California Institute for Peruvian Studies (CIPS) collection is comprised of primary and secondary research, including monographs, journals, artifacts, and primary research. Founded in 1984 by retired California Senior Archaeologist, Francis A. Riddell, CIPS was created in order to carry out archaeological site surveys, mapping, and excavations in Peru.
A significant focus of the collection are documents from the Inca Highway Expedition (1953-1954). Riddell participated in this expedition led by Victor von Hagen and in cooperation with UC Berkeley and John C. Rowe. This expedition is the foundation of the CIPS's activities from the 1980s through the present.
This collection was donated to California State University Stanislaus in 2002 following the death of Francis A. Riddell. See inventory note and linked inventory for a detailed list of published research and primary sources.
