La Gente de Aztlan is a University of California, Los Angeles news magazine publication that focuses on Chicana/o, Latina/o, and Native American
youth in Los Angeles as its main readership. It is a bilingual publication put together by UCLA students in an effort to reach
out to these communities. This collection of materials includes much of the office records, research material, and original
submissions of stories, poetry, and art. There are also a large number of photographs and a nearly complete run of the publication
from 1971 to 2011.

Biography
La Gente de Aztlan is a non-profit bilingual newsmagazine published by students at the University of California, Los Angeles. Since its inception
in 1971,
La Gente has provided in-depth information about art, education, health, and other issues that concern and affect the Chicana/o, Latina/o,
and Native American communities. Historically,
La Gente has targeted the youth of Los Angeles, reaching out to high schools as well as serving the needs of UCLA students. It has
also been distributed to select correctional facilities, colleges, and universities across the southwest.

Scope and Content
This collection consists of office files, research material, and original submisions of stories, poetry, and art. There are
a large number of photographs, mostly of students and various protests, both on campus and in the larger community. There
is also an almost complete run of the publication from 1971 to 2011. Though the issues from Fall 1979 to Spring 1982 are missing,
every other issue from this forty year span is present. The CSRC retains digital copies of the issues that are physically
missing.
