Biographical / Historical

The Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad served eastern California and southwestern Nevada; it operated from 1907 to 1940. It was largely used to haul borax from Francis Mason Smith's Pacific Coast Borax Company mine, east of Death Valley, but it also hauled other items and had connections with several other railroads in California.

Scope and Contents

The map is entitled "Exhibit A: L. A. & S. L. R. R. Los Angeles Division Plan of Interlocker Crucero, Cal." It was approved by both the Los Angeles & Salt Lake City Railroad and the Tonopah and Tidewater Railroad, October 1913. There are also 85 freight bills, all from 1934, for goods being shipped on the railroad.
