Biographical / Historical
Sergeant Clyde Dawson Eoff, American Expeditionary Force (4/28/1893 - 11/12/1984) was born to Charles and Anna Eoff in Omaha,
Nebraska. Sgt. Eoff registered for the draft when he was twentyfour years old in Nebraska and reported for training on 20
September 1917. He received training at Camp Funston, Kansas for service during the First World War One. Upon completion of
his training, Sgt. Eoff was assigned to the Ordnance Department and was deployed to France. Sgt. Eoff served with the 314th
Mobile Ordnance Repair Shop, and was eventually promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. Clyde Eoff passed away in Orange, California in
1984.

Scope and Contents
This collection consists of 322 correspondence from Sgt. Clyde D. Eoff, AEF to his family during the First World War. The
correspondence covers a period from 1917 - 1942, though the bulk is from 1917-1919. This collection also includes a few photographs,
drawings, poems, and some miscellaneous ephemera.

This series contains correspondence fom Sgt. Clyde D. Eoff, AEF to his mother Mrs. Charles (Chas) Eoff during the First World
War. The folders contain an assortment of material including 70 letters with envelopes, 17 postcards and two photographs.
Subjects of conversation include, general family news, the homefront, and daily events of SGT. Eoff's life including his training,
meals, and travels.
Of interest is a set of watercolor illustrations by Sgt. Eoff which can be found in folder number 4. These drawings depict
the people and places he saw during his time in Germany.

The folders contain an assortment of material including 32 letters with envelopes, two postcards and eight photographs. Subjects
of conversation include, friends and family news, the weather, and daily events of Sgt. Eoff's life including travels.
Of particular interest in this series is from a letter dated June 6, 1919, in which Sgt. Eoff states that he received an honorable
discharge.

This series contains correspondence from Sgt. Clyde D. Eoff, AEF to his sister Dolly Eoff during the First World War. The
folders contain an assortment of material including six letters with envelopes and six postcards. Subjects of conversation
include, thank-you notes for food and other gifts, friends and family members, and Sgt. Eoff's travels. The letters sent from
France and Germany largely describe scenery and the people of the countries.
Of particular interest in this series, Sgt. Eoff mentions his time in Europe as an opportunity to see the "Old World." He
also states that his division may enter Russia.
