Southern California tract maps 1928-1929 1946

Scope and Contents

Three Southern California tract maps. Two of the tract maps are dated 1928 and 1929 and the third is dated Oct. 1946. The two maps from the 1920s both name John C. Shaw, City Engineer, and both show tracts in different areas of the Miracle Mile neighborhood in Los Angeles. The map from 1946 shows the "northerly portion of the City of Redondo Beach" and names Fritz Zapf, City Engineer.

These maps were found in the DML B-22 mapcases with Dace Taube's notes (see accession no. 2021-055), but with unknown provenance. Some of the maps are folded.

Scope and Contents

These maps include, but are not limited to, the following items:
  1. 1904 map of Los Angeles showing public buildings, schools, fire houses, and railways
  2. Map of Steam and electric roads centering in Los Angeles
  3. Map of Los Angeles as it appeared in 1871 (issued later by the Women's University Club of L.A.)
  4. Map of the old Spanish and Mexican ranchos of Los Angeles County
  5. A 1929 newspaper clipping showing a graphic relating to the completion of Highway 66
