Description
This guide describes the Paul Elias field note volumes bound at the
Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, University of California, Berkeley.
Background
In 1974, as an undergraduate working at the University of California’s
Museum
of
Vertebrate
Zoology, Paul Elias traveled to Finca Chiblac in the Sierra de los Cuchumatanes of Guatemala. While there, he discovered two new
genera of salamander, later named
Nyctanolis pernix and
Bradytriton silus. Elias would continue on to receive a Master of Arts degree in zoology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1979
with his thesis, "The Salamanders of Northwestern Guatemala." He then earned a second Master of Arts degree in biology from
Harvard University in 1982.
