Scope and Contents

Winold Reiss and W. Langdon Kihn Indians of North America Portrait Prints Collection contains a booklet and loose pages with portrait prints of American Indians, as well as printing plates from W. Langdon Kihn that were used in the Southwest Museum publication, The Masterkey.
The loose prints are housed in a "See America First" portfolio and are based on original portraits by Winold Reiss and W. Langdon Kihn of Pikuni and Kainah Tribes of Blackfeet American Indians from Glacier National Park, Montana and Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada. Materials were published by the Great Northern Railway Company, St. Paul, Minnesota. There are two complete copies and a third copy containing 23 prints only. In addition there is a 1922 Exhibition Portaits of American Indians by W. Langdon Kihn booklet from the Anderson Galleries, New York.
There is also a newspaper clipping from the New York Herald Tribune about Reiss' 1935 exhibit at Squibb Galleries, as well as an exhibit brochure and brochure about Reiss' Art School in Glacier National Park.
The collection also includes an envelope containing Frank B. Linderman's Out of the North: A Brief Historical Sketch of the Blackfeet Indian Tribe, an additional 24 color prints from Winold Reiss portraits, prints from W. Langdon Kihn's plates, and loose Winold Reiss lithograph prints.
