Biographical / Historical Notes
The Tuesday Club was a businessman’s club that started in 1896 in San Diego. It consisted of lawyers, doctors, ministers,
businessmen, educators and others. It was a cultural and philanthropic organization with an excellent reputation. It included
community projects such as work in improving Balboa Park, and a biological station that developed into Scripps Institution
of Oceanography. The Tuesday Club also had lectures that were presented and discussed by its members. There were members who
were notable in their fields and were leading citizens of San Diego at that time, such as P.E. Kipp who was a clergyman, George
Marston, Julius Wangenheim, Judge Luce, and General Stone.
This collection contains meeting minutes and information about lectures at the Tuesday Club, a businessman’s club in San Diego,
between 1896 and 1909. The lectures and topics provide insight into the political and social issues at the turn of the 20th
century. Of special note are the signatures of the members.
There are three record books arranged chronologically.
