    Biographical / Historical

The UC Davis Medical Center was established in 1978 and expanded to the UC Davis Health System in 1994. The UC Davis Health System integrates business operations and strategic planning for UC Davis' physician group, medical school, and medical center.
The UC Davis Medical Center started as the Sacramento County Hospital in 1870. In 1966, the UC Davis School of Medicine was forming and needed a teaching hospital so UC Davis and Sacramento County signed an affiliation agreement for the County Hospital to be the faculty's primary clinical teaching facility. The university and the county would share the cost of providing care.
On July 1, 1973, the University of California Regents bought the hospital, making it the permanent teaching hospital for the UC Davis School of Medicine. In 1978 the hospital officially changed its name to the University of California, Davis Medical Center.
Throughout the next decades, the UC Davis Medical Center and the UC Davis Health System would grow physically to include various care centers and programs to expand health care.
The UC Davis Health Public Affairs and Marketing Department helps promote the services offered by the UC Davis Health System and fields all requests for print, broadcast, and online media contacts with news inquiries involving UC Davis Health, including its medical center, clinics, patients, health-care providers, schools, faculty, and students.
