Acquisition Information

Donated to the San Jose Historical Museum in 1993 by Duane H. Dunn, son of Harvey G. Dunn

Biography/Administrative History

The donor, Duane Hibbert Dunn (1924-2005), was the son of Kathryn Dorsey Hibbert (1901-1949) and Harvey Godfrey Dunn (1898-1971). Harvey was the son of James T. Dunn, whose biography is featured in "History of Santa Clara County" (Sawyer, 1922) and was well-known for his apiary business. Sons Harvey and Robert also worked in the bee business for Western Honey Corporation. Kathryn Hibbert was the daughter of Mary and George Hibbert of San Jose, and worked in the Mercury Herald business office before her marriage.

Scope and Content of Collection

Collection comprises three family photo albums, one of which appears to have been created by James T. Dunn, documenting his experiences on board ships, and his apiary business. Two other albums feature Kathryn and Harvey Dunn and extended family, many taken at Congress Springs near Saratoga. Loose prints include a tintype and cabinet photographs and feature Kathryn Hibbert Dunn and her family -- the Hibberts and Dorseys (or Dorcys).
