The FireWork: Women in Fire Suppression newsletter, created by Terese Floren and Linda Willing in connection to the Women
in Fire association, was established in the fall of 1982 as a means to share experiences and connect the national community
of women fire fighters.
The FireWork Newsletter collection (1982-1999) consists of 181 monthly publications of Firework: Women in Fire Suppression.
Articles are written by women who discuss their experiences as firefighters. Topics include: hiring and retention; challenges
female firefighters face in the field such as physical and emotional demands of the job; sexism; networking opportunities
and events; and more related subjects.
Materials are arranged chronologically.
There are no access restrictions on this collection.
All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the
Director of Archives and Special Collections. Permission for publication is given on behalf of Special
Collections as the owner of the physical materials and not intended to include or imply permission of
the copyright holder, which must also be obtained.
