Biographical / Historical

The Assyrian Archive was provided through the generosity of the Estate of Florence Marr. Florence was born in Iran, but immigrated as a child with her family to New York in about 1918. She graduated from New York University summa cum laude with a major in English Literature. She worked for more than thirty years for Time magazine in New York City. In 1975 Florence moved to Turlock, where she had a number of relatives. She was a very private person and devoted herself to writing poetry, reading, and art. She enjoyed her considerable collection of books, art, and antiques. Florence passed away in 1999 and designated various charities to receive donations from her Trust. It is through a donation from this Trust that CSU Stanislaus has established the Assyrian Archive and an endowment to support and maintain the Archive and related research projects.
