Rancho Chico, June 21, 1880. My Dear Muir Your kind letter to Mrs Bidwell I opened by mistake; but I have forwarded some
to her at Washington, D.C. where she arrived three weeks ago and a little more no, a little less. She will be delighted, and,
I hope, be able to explain about the Polygonum c But it is my turn now, having been misled by your lecture in which, with
a meekness and innocence in describle, you acknowledged yourself out of the beaten track, but proclaimed your intention to
continue therein or rather thereout by saying you were the happiest man living c So you were caught, ha? Of course you were
and surrendered too at discretion, of course. Well, I congratulate you, and welcome your return to civilization, and wish
you every felicity and remain very truly yours John Bidwell 00926
