the rushing waters of the Sacramento. I have had some fine tramps to the heights - on the McCloud trail where one may find
superb views of Shasta and the Crags - to the summit of the Crags themselves, and up and down the river. We have watched
the blooming and seeding of the wildflowers, the nesting of the birds, and all the wood folk at their feast of nuts and berries.
Louise has been making designs from the wild-flowers for decorating a new collection of my songs, and I have been finishing
a set of children's poems Little Songs of Sunland , which I commenced for Merodine some years ago. Now we are turning our
thoughts homeward after nearly three months in the pine woods, and in a few days more we shall be in Berkeley ready to settle
down to our tasks for the winter. Louise and Merodine join me in
