2 I am sorry to know that John Reid and Mary are having such hard times in Kansas. I am told that many of the farmers about
there are leaving their farms and going elsewhere. Letters from Carrie Anne Muir tells us that they all like living in Dakota,
but they are not yet sure that Peirre will be the capitol of the state but that will very soon be decided now. Business seems
to move on in Portage as usual although some think there is a falling off. 3 David and Ette are well, they have given
up housekeeping but they still have rooms in their own house I expect John has got home from his trip to Alaska, he has got
a wood house made near the 'Muir Glacier' with a hollow rock for a chimney and while he was there a part of gentlemen from
the east arrived and they told him they had brought instruments with them to measure the Glacier, perhaps you have seen this
measurement of it in the newspapers.
