1 Jan 12th 1905 - Byron, Cal. Mr Mrs Muir Dear Friends Your kind letter was received some days ago and found me
much better than when I wrote. My trouble the Dr. pronounced pleurisy but I must be careful he said so as not to have pneumonia.
I am up now and have been out breathing the fine air this morning for a few moments. I rented my home the 22nd of Oct. but
have written the parties this week to see if they will vacate; if so I shall go down as soon as able. I do not feel that
the house is really fit for me to go into. They have used a gas heater 03507 2 constantly and the walls of the two main
rooms were very damp when I left can but be worse now. The air there was simply wretched and I can but hope the tenants will
leave as soon as possible. Yet they were such neat appearing people. I had reserved one room and had been sleeping there
for a couple of weeks before leaving for Byron after coming from Palo Alto. I shall not think of leaving here anyway before
next week. And as I would have to ride several miles to reach you from the Southern Pacific line, probably it will be best
to go direct to Oakland much as I hate to give up seeing you on this trip - Should the weather continue warm, I may feel so
well by next week 03507
