Mr. John Muir, Martinez,California. Dear Sir:- One of the by-laws of the American Alpine Club (No.4) prescribes that
The Board of Directors shall XXXXXX consider names for Membership, and its approval shall be necessary before the names are
submitted for election by the Club at large . In view of the fast that the wide geographical dispersion of the members of
the Board of Directors prevents frequent meetings of the Board and the consideration of candidates for membership it seems
proper to Prof. Fay and the Philadelphia members of the Board to obtain the approval of the members of the Board by mail,
rather than to adhere to ths plan of actual meetings which would result perhaps in only annual elections to membership. In
pursuance of this view of the case, I herewith submit for your consideration the names of four gentlemen whose names haws
been submitted together the with the name of their proposers and ths mountains, etc. to their credit. The Phila. members of
the Board are prepared to recommend these names favorably to ths Club for election. In view of the high qualifications of
Mr. Henry P. Montagnier and mindful of ths fast that hs has written a sympathetic letter 03301
