Scappoose,Oregon, Jan.26, 1903. Dear Brother John: Here is the letter I received from Dan, and though there are few particulars
I thought you might like to see it. Mary's letter came yesterday which I will also enclose. You will see she was only in time
for the funeral, but it is such a comfort that they could both be there. I suppose Mary would not know how seriously ill Annie
was until she received the telegram announcing her death, when she must have started at once. I will also enclose this letter
from Mrs. Laura Owen, Abbott. She is a daughter of the Mrs. Owen who is in Annie's house, and tells how Annie was before Dan
came. I am so thankful Dan could be with her these last few days, and it was such a comfort to her to know he was coming.
In a letter from another friend who was with her, she said, Dan will take me in his big strong arms, and make me so comfortable,
he loves me. Perhaps you have had letters too. One of the friends sent me a small box of flowers that had been brought to
the funeral. They were carnations and a rosebud, with some sprays of delicate green. I pressed them. I hope you are all keeping
well these winter days. All are pretty well here. Love to all from Sarah M. Galloway The telegram telling of Annie's
death came with a shock, for I thought she was getting well again. If convenient you might return the letters as Celia might
like to see them when she comes. Any time will do when you are writing.
