Description:
This photograph by Ole Ravnos is a study of the growing commerce in Turlock. Farmers continue to haul goods in horse drawn
wagons along the unpaved street while on the new sidewalks are businessmen dressed in suits and topcoats. The St. Elmo Hotel
is the tall building on the left. Just in front of it is the Southern Pacific Railroad station. The two story brick building
on the left is the Santos Saloon built by Jesse Santos. The far doorway under the market sign was the original home of Turlock's
public library. This building was purchased and torn down by the city when it was discovered that John W. Mitchell, the founder
of Turlock, had deeded the property for a park.
