HERPER BROTHERS' EDITORIAL ROOMS. FRANKLIN SQUARE, NEW YORK. March 10, 1897. Mr. John Muir; Martinz, California.
My dear Sir: Both Prof. Sargent and Prof. Hague heve suggested you to me as the proper person to whom to apply for en article
upon the recent journey of the Forestry Commission through the reservations, with some observations upon the purposes of the
Commission and the official action that should be taken for the preservation of the forests. I am also told that you have
photographs for the illustration of such an article. If you will undertake to write an article of about thirty-six hundred
words, which will fill a page of the WEEKLY, and send me photographs from whioh I can select illustrations for a page, or
perhaps two pages, I shall be greatly obliged to you. Trusting that you can undertake this task for me, I am Yours very
truly, illigible 02259
