Railroad line Escondido to Oceanside
Description:
The Santa Fe Station in Vista was built in 1914 and served the Escondido to Oceanside line which was once a popular passenger
line. In 1946 it was changed to freight only as passenger travel was down. In 1969 lack of use made the AT&SF line owners
choose to shut down the Vista station. This closure came close on the heels of closures of Carlsbad and Encinitas stations.
This photo shows the station after closure, the windows are boarded up and the siding has been removed from the deck in some
areas. The building later became the Vista Chamber of Commerce.
