San Francisco, Aug. 26, 1896 My dear Mr Johnson. I hope the seawinds have saved you from the deadly heat of New York we
have had so much of this summer. I had a fine time in cool Alaska with the Osborns many times we said as we looked through
the lovely eloquent scenery how Johnson would enjoy this how it would brace revive him I failed to find a way to the westward
to learn something of the inlets of St Elias Prince Willaims Sound. so I returned like a tourist. However I gained a good
review of the old ground I visited so long ago got back in time to join the Forestry commission in Oregon. I start for the
Cascade reservation this evening. The Commission Sargent telegraphs me leaves Ashland for Crater Lake the Klamath region tomorrow
I hope to join the party there remain with them the balance of the season. The Stoneman House in Yosemite was burned the
other day Have you seen Lieut Youngs report on the National Park reservations of the Sierra his remarks on Bancroft Library

keep so I am ever your friend John Muir
