E. A. MAIL LINE, S.S. EMPIRE Sydney, australia March 30, 1904. Dear Dr. Merriam, Will you be in California this coming
summer, or will the St. Louis show devour you with other good American Washington mammals? I hope to reach home by the first
of June, and it would be fine to find you on the right side of the best of the continents. I have had some big memorable
trips during the year in the wildernesses of both ends of the world, and how often I have wished your companionship I left
Boston last spring with Prof. Sargent and his son Robe son. Went through innumerable parks, gardens, picture galleries, across
Russia, the Crimea, Caucasus, etc., Siberia and Manchuria. We parted in Shanghai last September. Since then I've been wandering
alone in India, Egypt, New Zealand and this wonderful antipodal marsupial and eucalyptical country, the forests of the Himalaya,
New Zealand and Australia Perfectly novel and glorious, all of them. And what a glorious time in the Mariposa Sequoias and
Yosemite with the President. I'm going home via Manila, HongKong and Yokohama, from Hong Kong on the Siberia, one of Harriman's
best ships. Hope he is now well as ever. He was very kind to me. Give my love to Mrs. Merriam, the Baileys and Gannett and
your Uncle James. Ever faithfully yours, JOHN MUIR03350
