Vroman'sStaionery,Books,Photo Sup's Mr. E.H.Harriman, Pasadena, Dear Sir: Pardon the liberty taken herein, but after
your visit to Japan in 1905 I had in correspondence with Mr. Skeda S. Nakamura ( also in conversation with them last summer
while in Japan) word that you and Mr.Sweaim(?) were interested in the collection of Netsuke ? Somewhat of a sufferer myself
from that cause thought perhaps you might be interested enough to take an hour or so' off duty ? to run through my collection, which
I have been picking up during several trips to Japan in past 18 years. Something over 2000 pieces, some good ones. Mr. Nakamura
mentioned your taking a Benten, by Tokoku (Fugir)that was intended for my collection? So, I also have a little grievance,
to even up, also? Would say that I have 37 of Tokoku's pieces. I consider him the greatest living Netsuke carver , if not
of any age. Among the 37is what he says is his Masterpiece. If you are interested I would be pleased to run through them
with you. Mr. John Muir once spoke of you as enjoying such, also, while spending a few days with me, and this prompts me
to take this liberty. Yours truly, A.C. Vrowman I would say the collection is not for sale, or exploit, simply a pleasure
of my own, which I am willing to divide with others. A.C.V.
