Martinez, California, Oct 8, 1899 My dear Miss Draper, I was very glad to recieve the round volume? letter of your Big
4 written in Arizona on your way east. I wrote in reply a month ago to Mary Cornelia thinking they would pass it on to you
Betty Averill But Betty writes me she has not seen it yet I suppose you have not - through you must soon. Since I got home
I have had quite a number of visits from members of the H.A.E. Captain Doran his wife niece. Henry Gannett, Prof Gilbert Charlie
Keeler tomorrow Dr Merriam is coming. So you may be sure the H.A.E. has been kept bright on this side the continent. I also
had a nice trip to the Sequoias of the Sierra the redwoods of the Coast Range with Dr. Merriam shortly after my return home
have heard by letter from John Burroughs Prof Ridgeway? . Ask Mary H. for the answer to your compound letter. With best
wishes Ever Cordially Yours John Muir 02631
