Martinez, Jan 10, 1905 Dear Mr. Johnson: Here are a few more of Recession clippings. The Examiner is letting up as if
played out on its foolish opposition scheme. Mr. Colby's letters will show you the state of affairs at Sacramento. Can you
get any statements from Members of Congress or heads of Departments such as Colby calls for? I don't believe any of our state
Senators are honest in opposition or would be influenced by statements from Congress, the White House or even direct from
Heaven. Therefore they ask for assurances they will know cannot be given. Still they may be bluffed or frightened into decency
I am hoping Mr. Harriman may be interested bring railroad influence to bear. Anyhow the fight is fairly on we must do our
best. Many thanks for the magazines kind plan for the dog story. There seems to be lots of life in it. It may be easily expanded
I think if the Century does not care to publish it others are anxious to get the chance Please return inclosures when done
with them, believe me with best wishes faithfully Yours John Muir 10037
