W. A. WILDE COMPANY, PUBLISHERS OF THE PBLOUBET SERIES, 110 Boyiston Street. Boston, July 31./00 189Mr. John Muir, Martinez,
Cal. Dear Sir:-- Your favor of the 24th just at hand, and we regret that you are not able to write something for our list.
Our effort has been, and is at the present time, to bring before the young people only such books as are good, wholesome and
interesting, and at the same time, instructive. So many of these books are placed on the co-collateral reading of the school
associations of the Middle States that we are particularly desirous to have them have some bit of instruction in them, so
that the readers- will feel, after they have finished the story, that they have gained something out of it. Knowing your
familiarity with Alaska, we felt that you were eminently fitted to write something along that line for us. I know there are
many stories of Alaska - many of them for young people - but a story based on that country, which is interesting and filled
with some adventure, I am sure would be most acceptable. Thus we are doubly sorry that you are so engaged that you cannot
let us have something along this line. We wish, however, that you would consider the matter, and although your engagements
are such, now, that you could not write it immediately, yet if not this year, perhaps next year you could write something
for us.
