October 30,1900. R.W.GILDER, EDITOR. R. U. JOHNSON, ASSOCIATE EDITOR. C. C. BUBL, ASSISTANT EDITOR. Mr. John Muir,
Martinez, California. My dear Muir: I believe I am indebted to you in the matter of our occasional correspondence.I always
hesitate to write to you for fear of breaking in upon your literary labors on your Bio raghy, which we are looking forward
to with great expectations.I hope you will not make it necessary for me to write to Mrs. Muir on this subject.I tow that you
have finished up your articles for our rivals of the Atlantic, do not let yourself be distracted by any false political gods,
either Brother McKin-ley or Brother Bryan. Each is a bad lot, and neither is likely to get any countenance from me. Give me
a cheerful word about yourself and family, and believe me always Faithfully yours, illegible Associate Editor. 02744
