Martinez, Dec. 24, 1908 Dear Mr Colby: Well done for you Parsons. I've not been idle tho kept a prisoner with something
like the Grippe You will see by enclosed postal that our old war horse Johnson is again in the thick of the fight. Mr. H.
sent my letter to an influential friend in Washington what effect it may have I dont know. but hope for the best. Your circular
letter is capital must compel attention. Also your letter to Chamberlin which with the Fitzgerald Transcript letter Ill return
as you direct as soon as I have tried? to reply to that engineer, who is much smarter quite as wicked as Man illegible in
park destruction. I feel we must beat the whole tribe of park grafters. Good luck. Good Year, faithfully yrs John Muir
