ARNOLD ARBORETUM, HARVARD UNIVERSITY, Jamaica Plain, Mass, August 12, 1898. My dear Muir: Glad to see your handwriting
of August 1st. Let me know when to expect you, I shall be ready any time after the middle of September, but, as I have already
written you, come as much earlier as you can. I enclose a note from our friend Wood of San Bernadino. He may be a useful
man if there is any more stirring up to be done of forest reservation matters. I wish you would return his letter to me sometime,
as well as this one of General Abbot's which I got a few days ago and which I send to let you see that he is sound on other
subjects besides forest preservation. I have at last finished up Abies and all the conifers, and Volume xii. is getting through
the press now pretty rapidly. Faithfully yours, illegible John Muir, Esq. Martinez, Cala. 02453
