ARNOLD ARBORETUM, HARVARD UNIVERSITY. Jamaica Plain, Mass., November 26,1897. My dear Muir: Mr. Hunnewell, the old
man who loves trees and whose letter I sent you the other day, has a grandson who is going to California and his grandfather
has asked me to give him a note of introduction to you. I have done this with some compunction as I could not very well refuse.
The idea, I fancy, was the grandfather's and not the grandson's who cares more for dogs, golf and tennis than he does for
trees, and probably the letter will never be presented. If it is, do not curse me too much for having written it, and believe
that I am always faithfully yours, C. S. Sargent John Muir, Esq. Martinez, Cal. 02363
