Martinez, July 31, 1914 Dear Mrs Arnold- I am very glad to get tidings of you after so long a silence The plant you sent
is a polygonum or eriogonum of which there are many species The specimens you forwarded by mail were very dry and crushed
to scraps dust- so I can't make them out without infinite time. Send carefully pressed specimens to Miss Eastwood who is
familiar with all the big family. With best wishes hoping to hear from you again ere long I am faithfully your friend John
