March 26th, 1896 R. W. GILDER, EDITOR. R. U. JOHNSON, ASSOCIATE EDITOR. C. C. BUEL. ASSISTANT EDITOR. John Muir, Esq.
Martinez, Cal. My dear Muir:- I have already written to you about the appointment of the superb forestry commission. It
is now very important that the recommendation of 25,000 for its expenses should not fail in Congress. Will you not write a
special letter to Senator George C. Perkins, and have the Sierra Club also call his special attention to the great importance
of the subject and to the high character of the commission. This should be done at once to be effective, as the Sundry Civil
Bill, including this item, will be considered by the Senate soon. illegible 02075
