Lordsburg, Calif. Nov. 2, 1910. My dear Mr. Muir:- It seems long since the day you were at our house here at the grove,
and long, too, since we had word of you. Awhile ago we saw that you were at Hooker's, writing a book, but since then you have
completely got out of our field of vision and that is a thing we don't like to have happen. We are working away here, and
with good success. The grove is coming on finely, and supporting us and it, and going to do more pretty soon. Our son went
East in August for a 6-weeks visit, but will probably be there till next autumn, engineering, so we 2 old folk are alone.
I want to say that we should be more than merely glad to have you here again. I am getting things in good shape, so I can
have some leisure. Now if you can use me in anything you are doing I shall be at your service. This is not a business proposition
at all pure genial goodwill and friendship. I shall enjoy doing anything you want done in the way of typewriting etc. and
no thought of money in it. Mrs. Calkins keeps worrying about you, and I believe won't be happy at all until you come and live
with us awhile. I shall have half my time, at least, available for your purposes, and I assure you I shall be most happy to
devote it to 04893
