Martinez Jan. 8, 1908 Darling Helen I am forwarding a lot of gift stuff with this a few letters. The weather here is dismal,
fog night day. How glad I am you are in the desert. Be very, very careful not to get the least bit chilled Dress to warmly
rather than allow the least hint of cold be sure you keep out of the wind. A cold such as I got would be fatal to you in your
present condition make very small fires, in so small a room as yours, keep out of it when its the least hot I'm trying to
get things in order here, Johnnie Reid has paid for his bit of land. Now comes Pettett? goodbye with all my love - JM
